Introduction

The Honda Jazz is one of the most popular hatchbacks in Malaysia.

The driven factors of its success are its powerful engine, spacious interiors as well as a decent fuel economy just like most Honda Models in the market.

The Jazz houses some technologically advanced features from the inside, which complements its stylish outer looks. This family vehicle is fun to drive and also offers a quality boot space.

The latest generation of the Honda Jazz was launched in the year 2017, which also saw the return of the Hybrid variant to the Malaysian roads.

The Honda Jazz faces stiff competition from other B-segment hatchbacks such as the Kia Rio, Mazda 2 and the Darling of Malaysia which is the Perodua Myvi.

The Jazz features a keyless entry system as well as push start button which is a standard feature across all its variants.

In addition, it also a features a 7-inch display audio system is provided that comes with a number of functions. For convenience, the interiors feature 7-9 cup holders, depending on the variant.

The hatchback is very spacious and offers a plenty of legroom and headroom. For storing goods and luggage, the Honda Jazz offers a boot space of 399-litre. Furthermore, the seats can be flipped and folded into various modes giving you all the more space for storing extra luggage when required.

Exterior of the Jazz

The Honda Jazz comes packed in a stylish looking body. On the front, well-designed halogen headlights can be seen along with LED DRLs across all the variants except the base version.

It also sports a newly designed tailgate along with the LED tail lights at the rear. Adding to the exquisite look of the exterior of this hatchback are the redesigned fog lights, body colored door handles along with retractable mirrors that come with integrated turning lights. The Honda Jazz comes with a rear wiper along with an intermittent wiper system at the front.

The Honda JAZZ 1.5L S runs on 15-inch steel wheels that comprise of 175/65 R15 tyre size. All the other variants are available with either 15-inch alloy wheels comprising the tyre size of 175/65 R15 or 16-inch alloy wheels with 185/55 R16 tyre size.

Talking about the measurement, the Honda Jazz comes with a wheelbase of 2,530mm, which is not at all bad for a hatchback. It is 3,955 mm long, 1,694 mm wide and stands at a height of 1,524 mm.


Engine & Fuel Consumption of the Jazz

The regular variants of the Honda Jazz are powered by a 1.5-litre i-VTEC fuel-efficient petrol engine.The engine produces 120 Hp at 6,600 rpm along with a peak torque of 145 Nm at 4,600 rpm. The engine comes mated to an advanced Continuous Variable Transmission (CVT) system. Backed by Honda’s Earth Dream Technology, the CVT keeps the environment inside the vehicle balanced and also results in better acceleration. The Jazz has a top speed of 180 kmph, can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 10 seconds.

As for the hybrid variant it comes with a DOHC i-VTEC unit which produces 110 Hp and 134 Nm of torque at 5,000 rpm. This is combined with a 30 PS/160 Nm hybrid motor, the system produces a combined of 137Hp and 170 Nm of torque. The hybrid variant gets a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission.

Honda claims that the fuel consumption of the petrol variant of the Jazz gives you 5.9L/100km , whereas for the Hybrid Variant of the Jazz it gives you 4.0 litres per 100 km making it a very economical vehicle in comparison to the other cars in this segment.
Safety of the Honda Jazz

The Honda Jazz comes with ventilated disc brakes at the front and drum brakes for the rear wheels.

Others safety features includes Anti Lock Braking System (ABS) 6 SRS airbags, Vehicle Stability Assist (VSA), Hill Start Assist (HSA), Emergency Stop Signal (ESS) along with hazard lights and rear brake lights. The hatchback also gets 3-point ELR seatbelts that make your drive a lot safer.

Summary

The new Honda Jazz features better fuel consumption as well as better performance as compared to the previous generation Jazz.

In addition it is priced around RM 3k cheaper compared to its bigger brother the Honda City in Malaysia.

Therefore if your the type of consumer that prefers a car that is good on performance and fuel economy and doesn’t want to worry about tight parking spaces from time to time then the Honda Jazz would be the car for you.
